Reichstag

Here it is. The Reichstag.
Home to the German Parlament or Bundestag.
The site of the fire in 1933 by the Communists (or so they say) that led to the appointment of Hitler as President for 6 months to save the Country..
and we all see how that turned out.

To the German People.

The view from the River

The other, very modern, Government Buildings

So after the fire, the goverment moved to the opera house, and then after the war, it was REALLY bombed out. Just a shell really, so after 1989 and the reunification of Germany, when the Capitol was once again in Berlin.....
They decided to renovate it, and make the government transparent to the people.
They built this dome on top, where you can go in and see the government in session, as well as get a really good view of the City!!

The Dome from the inside. The mirrors reflect the parlament below.

Up and UP we go on ramps.

Looking down into the chamber.. here is the German Eagle.

I was there at night, having a lovely diner with a new friend at the restaurant, so no laws were being passed at 10 p.m.!! so alas, an empty chamber.

From the Ground Floor looking in.
