Proteus parade

At 5:15 Monday, or Lundi in french, the Proteus Parade stepped off in New Orleans.

Proteus is the Second oldest Parade at New Orleans Mardi Gras. Founded in 1882.

In the old days-- before electricity, they lit the way for the parade.
People throw them money for lighting the way














The Sun was going down... there was a small break and then the Orpheus Parade took the same route. -- pics to come!!

MARDI GRAS

Mardi Gras Holiday begins (actually it began on 3 Kings Day. but this is our 5 day weekend to "Celebrate")

first up, The Spanish Town Parade in Baton Rouge

I don't really know why the flamingo is the mascot but you see them EVERYWHERE in Spanishtown... a downtown neighborhood in Baton Rouge

As you can see, this parade is more irreverant

and includes everyone!

We were so proud.
